Columbus Rescue Mission

Welcome to the Columbus Rescue Mission!

We are a group of Christians who believe God wants us to welcome strangers and serve those in need. All our services are offered FREE in the name of Jesus Christ.

Everyday at the Mission is an adventure, and part of that lately has become how to deal with all the people that come to us, when we don’t have any empty beds.

We just had a family come to us from Michigan that had been promised a place to stay that didn’t exist. They had brought their two dogs with them and a friend. Both of the rooms we use to help families were full, in fact the whole mission was full. This couple had both found work, and was thankful to just get a shower and a meal. They had been staying in a storage unit they rented for their belongings, so they could turn in the U-haul truck. They had been told they couldn’t stay there anymore and had found a trailer to rent, but didn’t have the $100 to put down on it. This being a Wednesday and in light of them getting their first paychecks on Friday. They seemed like someone we should help, but how? That is where the body of Christ comes in.

God provided the security deposit from one of the church’s in town. I called the animal hospital, and they agreed to keep the dogs for no charge. We worked out a special deal with one of the motels in town and obtained a room for them for two nights.

I don’t have the resources to do this all the time, but I wish I could. That couple came to chapel, helped with the evening chores, the friend came for morning devotions and with some help headed off to get a picture ID so he could go to work.

Sometimes the love of Christ needs to be displayed in a practical way.

James 2:14-17  What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? Thus faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.

I am thankful that you help me be an example of faith in Jesus with works. Works won’t save us, but as saved people we will work.

Ephesians 2:10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
