April 2018
See What’s Happening at the Mission
Would you like to be encouraged and blessed? We would love to have you join us for our Annual Ladies Brunch on Saturday morning April 14, 2018 at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2200 25th Street, Columbus, NE from 9:30-11:30, or April 21, 2018 at New Heights Assembly of God Church, 1522 S Grant, York, NE from 9:30-11:30 .
Our theme this year is “Breaking the Chains” and we have a great morning planned with testimonies of the LORD’s work in the lives of 3 graduated Healing Heart Disciples – Brandi, Trisha & Elizabeth.
The Brunch is free and we would like to invite you to come and enjoy the food, fellowship, music, and fun door prizes. Also hear from Chaplain Ted and Staff about what’s happening and where you can help at the Rescue Mission.
And… back by popular demand, is an opportunity to Host a Table!! When you host a table you get to pick
a theme, decorate a round table for 6-8 people and provide place settings. You can invite guests to fill
it up or enjoy the lady guests that come and need seating. It’s a great way to meet a new friend. Ladies have been very creative with many themes such as: Birdhouses, Patriotic, Christmas, St Patrick’s, African, Light Houses, Picnic, Hello Kitty, Daisy, Missionary & Husker- to name a few. It’s always so fun to look over all the creativity in the room.
We sure hope that you and your friends will come and join us. For more information please call the Columbus Rescue Mission at 402-563-1096 in Columbus or the Living Water Rescue Mission 402-362-0127 in York.
Celebrating what the Lord is doing!
Healing Heart Disciples Brandi, Elizabeth, and Trisha will be sharing their testimonies at the Ladies Brunches in Columbus and York. We are so proud of these ladies and of all the disciples who have graduated from the program.

From the heart of Chaplain Ted:
Praise the Lord,
As we move about in our communities helping people in need, I find myself taking my eyes off the cross and looking to whatever problem is before me. Even our guests seem focused with their eyes on whatever the symptoms of their sin has produced in their lives. Their problem is the same as mine. We have taken our eyes off Jesus, or have never looked to Him in the first place.
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. 1 John 2:16
My Pastor recently said in his sermon the most common accident is when you think the person in front of you is going to turn right and you take your eyes off that vehicle starting to proceed right yourself, but they haven’t moved and you run into the back of them.
So a question for all of us, are our eyes on something or someone other than Jesus?
Jesus *said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. John 14:6
Are we attempting to go to God some other way or through someone else?
fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2
The only answer for our guests, and for you and I is the same, JESUS. When it comes to heaven and where you will spend eternity, please take time this Easter to examine in whom you are trusting.
Praise the Lord Jesus!

Healing Heart News – From Laverna
Here at the Living Water Rescue Mission we have so many opportunities to share God’s message. We can become discouraged when it seems that it does not take root and we may not see fruit. Remembering that God is the one who causes it to take root, we can take peace in the fact that we get to take an important role in the harvest. Thank you for your prayers and support that allow us the opportunities to share with others. 1 Corinthians 3:6-9
I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow. So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. The one who plants and the one who waters have one purpose, and they will each be rewarded according to their own labor. For we are co-workers in God’s service; you are God’s field, God’s building.
From the heart of Chaplain Hawk:
Greetings in the name of Jesus Christ and may God’s rich blessings be upon you. April certainly looks like a busy month at Living Water. Temperatures will be warming up and people are out more and, sad to say, many without a home. They will be stopping by for whatever help we can provide. The Gospel is still preached here every night for our guests, those taken to the jails and prisons, and into surrounding communities. Thanks to you our work will continue and Jesus will be glorified. Once again, “Thank you” for your support, love, and prayers. God bless you.
For the past year, Associate Director Chaplain Hawk, along with Curtis and LaVerna Smith (Women’s Program Director), and Volunteer Staff Carol Spahn, have spent Monday evenings at the Nebraska Correction Center for Women in York leading the Prison Fellowship Academy. The Academy is a yearlong intensive program that provides training and study for the inmates to develop holistic approaches to their faith, family, relationships, addiction recovery and social issues. They have been ministering to the inmates there while leading worship, giving the gospel, and building relationships. There have been approximately 30 attendees each Monday and most generally they are the same women each week. Each leader has brought something special to the women. Chaplain Hawk brings the gift of preaching and Carol shares her unconditional and accepting love for the women. Curtis and LaVerna, being a married couple, bring a very special gift, showing the women what healthy relationships look like, something these women likely have never had or seen. Hawk, Curtis and LaVerna all also bring a wealth of knowledge and experience with those struggling in addiction. It is our prayer that these women will come to know Jesus Christ as their Savior and that when they are released they will have success staying clean, finding work, and reuniting with their families, and we praise God for the past year of witnessing. A few of the women who will be released in the next few months have made plans to come to Living Water Rescue Mission to help them start their new life.
Derrick came to us a broken man in June of last year. There were times during the past nine months that Derrick struggled with his past but, through the grace of God, he learned to trust and have faith in the Lord. His walk with the Lord has been an inspiration to us all. As Derrick graduates from the program on April 7th we wish him abundance in God’s blessings. We praise you Lord for bringing Derrick to the Columbus rescue mission.
This feeder pig is in need of a home that is willing to fatten it up for market at the Columbus and Living Water Rescue Mission. When you choose to feed the pig, please know that fattening it up will help feed men, women, and children and give them a warm cozy bed to stay in while hearing the Good News of the gospel of Jesus Christ. If you have a group that is interested in fattening up a few pigs, please call Chaplain Ted at 402-563-1096 and he will deliver your piggies to you. The address of the Columbus Rescue Mission is 1471-25th Avenue and the phone number is 402-563-1096. The address of the Living Water Rescue Mission in York is 701 S. Lincoln Avenue and the phone number is 402-362-0127.
Another way to help out the Columbus and Living Water Rescue Mission is to participate in the AmazonSmile contribution opportunity. By choosing our mission as your non-profit organization, we will receive a portion of each purchase that you make.
How does AmazonSmile work?
When first visiting AmazonSmile, customers are prompted to select a charitable organization from over one million eligible organizations. In order to browse or shop at AmazonSmile, customers must first select a charitable organization. For eligible purchases at AmazonSmile, the AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of the purchase price to the customer’s selected charitable organization.
Special Invitation to Pray
We hold monthly prayer meetings where we lift up the guests, staff, and other concerns of the Mission. It is a huge blessing to be present with the Lord and praying for others. We would like to invite you to join us. We meet in Columbus the last Tuesday night of each month at 7:00 pm in Chaplain Ted’s office in the Mission. We meet in York the 2nd Thursday of every month at 7:00 PM at the Living Water Rescue MIssion. If you have any questions please call Pam in Columbus 402-563-1096 or Diane in York 402-362-6171.
The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. Psalm 145:18
Would You Please Consider Volunteering at the Columbus and Living Water Rescue Mission?
“Whosoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give….” 2 Corinthians 9:6-7a
With busy lives it can be hard to find time to volunteer, however the benefits of volunteering can be enormous to you, your family, and the Rescue Missions
in Columbus & York. We are currently in need of evening chapel leaders – ½ hour a month or weekly blesses us greatly. We also have some nights available on our calendar to bring in an evening meal. On occasion we need people to drive guests to an appointment or job interview. We can always use painters and fixer-uppers. Finally, there is a need for translators for our Spanish speaking guests.
If you would like to be blessed and also be a blessing, please call Pam in Columbus 402-563-1096 or LaVerna in York 402-362-0127.

2018 Columbus Big Give
The Columbus Big Give event will once again be held this year on May 19th, 2018. There are 38 organizations participating in this year’s event. This is another opportunity for you to donate money to the Columbus and Living Water Rescue Mission to “Help the Hurting and the Homeless in the Name of Jesus Christ!”
One of the big misconceptions about this event is that all money donated is divided equally between all participating groups. This is not the case. You can designate which group or groups you wish to donate to and each group will receive all of the money that you donate to them.
We could really use your help during this event. You can donate at various locations around Columbus (these locations will be announced next month) or you can pick up an envelope at the Columbus Rescue Mission.
Thank you for your consideration and …. Give Big!!!
As we are a 501 c 3, we accept no state or federal assistance. Please consider Him as you consider helping us.
