Pam’s Testimony

My name is Pam Pearson and I grew up here in Platte County on a farm near Genoa. When I was growing up my family attended a Church in Genoa and I went to Sunday School, Church, and Youth Group.

In the summer, my brother, sisters and I went to our grandparents country church to Vacation Bible School. There, I learned about Jesus, we memorized verses, and had Bible drills. I loved it. I learned a lot about the Bible at VBS.

When I was a teenager, our Youth Group went to a rally in Silver Creek, NE, and an altar call was given and I went forward. My memory isn’t the best but it seems I felt changed. What I do remember is my friends making fun of me and saying “Jesus Freak”.  Peer pressure was great in my small class and it seemed important I fit in with the crowd, so soon I was back to my old ways.  When I search my memory I know I believed and have always clung to

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but will have eternal life.” – John 3:16

I continued with Sunday School, Church & MYF and graduated and then off to college.

Over the next few years I met my husband, Ted; we married and moved to Glenwood, Minnesota.  Ted’s parents, Randall & Alice retired from farming and moved to Glenwood soon after we did.  They shared their testimony with us daily by the way they lived and also Alice shared in the Bible with me.

We started our family and I felt a pull for them to learn about Jesus and got them to Sunday School pretty regularly.  At times in my 20’s and 30’s I would feel real convicted about my walk, but in retrospect I see I wanted to be religious to fill that.  I wanted to go to church, to do the right thing, but I knew something was missing.  I now know it was the personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

In 1997 Ted, Holly & I started attending a church in Columbus and started hearing the pastor preach the Word and hear the worship team praise and honor our Lord in music.  Ted & I went to Basic Christianity Sunday School classes and I started to grow and understand who I was, a child of God.

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name.”   – John 1:12

I began to understand who Jesus was, my Lord & Savior, and what he did for me.  To die on the cross to take away my sin and save me.  I began to see how he was there for me in trials and in joys.  I prayed to the Lord to forgive me for my sins.

“In him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His Grace.”   –  Ephesians 1:7

And I began to live for him and trust him. I got involved in Bible Studies and this has helped me deepen my trust in the Lord – not trusting feelings or circumstances, the world or people but trusting who I am in Christ.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not on your own understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your path.”   – Proverbs 3:5-6

Today, I proclaim that Jesus is my Lord and King and I am his servant.  I want to please him and obey him and serve him.  I know I am a sinner saved by Grace, God’s Grace, and humbly bow at the foot of the cross.

“But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ, by grace you have been saved.”  – Ephesians 2:4-5

I started working at the Columbus Rescue Mission in 2008 and every day is a great adventure following Christ and a privilege to see how Jesus saves lives.
