PLANNED GIVING
“Give,
and it will be given to you.
A good measure,
pressed down,
shaken together
and running over,
will be poured into your lap,
for with the measure you use,
it will be measured to you.”
Luke 6: 38
Since 2003, the Columbus Rescue Mission (2009 Living Water Rescue Mission) has served the poor and the homeless as a conduit of the generosity of compassionate people in our area. Planned giving offers new opportunities to demonstrate your compassion for the needy and to make strong, informed choices about your assets and desires for the future. Every family and each individual who considers planned giving is unique. The Missions of Rescue Foundation wants to help guide you through your planned giving options in order to tailor a program specifically with your wishes in mind.
Cash gifts can be deducted up to 50% of adjusted gross income. For instance, on a $10,000 cash gift in a 28% tax bracket, you save $2,800 in taxes. Appreciated stock (held more than 1 year) makes an excellent charitable gift. You avoid all capital gains taxes, receive a tax deduction for the full value of the gift, and can deduct up to 30% of your adjusted gross income.
Bonds and mutual funds are similar to appreciated stock in the tax treatment, with a deduction for the full value of the gift. State, municipal andU.S.government bonds are welcome.
In exchange for a gift of cash, stock or securities, the Columbus Rescue Mission will pay a guaranteed income for life to you, you and your survivor, or another person named. You receive a substantial income tax deduction in the year of the gift and part of the income is tax-free. Upon your death, the gift remainder supports theMission. (Your income and tax deduction are based on your age.) Deferred Gift AnnuityThis is similar to a gift annuity, except that payments begins at a future date determined by you (retirement, for example). Your tax deduction and annual rate of return increase the longer you wait to start payments.
(ANNUITY AND UNITRUSTS)Donors can select the rate of return from these income arrangements and also choose a fixed or fluctuating annual payment. Capital gains taxes are completely avoided and you will receive a tax deduction based on the age of the income recipient and rate of return.
This is one of the simplest ways to give your estate. You can make a gift bequest to the Columbus Rescue Mission or Living Water Rescue Mission of a dollar amount, specific property, a percentage of your estate or what is left (the remainder) after your loved ones have been taken care of.
A simple way to make a significant future gift is to name the Columbus Rescue Mission beneficiary to receive a portion or all of the proceeds of an existing life insurance policy. You may receive a tax deduction for the cash surrender value, reducing your tax liability in the year of the gift.
Retirement account funds (IRA’s or company plans) beyond the comfortable support of loved ones or yourself may be given to the Columbus Rescue Mission by proper beneficiary designations. There are so many ways to protect your financial future while benefiting the Missions.
